Government in Florida has embraced the Internet.
Gov. Jeb Bush created quite an uproar when he first proposed centralizing the state's information technology resources and purchasing under the State Technology Office. But early reports following the STO's launch in July seem to indicate the state is already getting a better deal on products and services by capitalizing on economies of scale -- buying in bulk and eliminating duplication by having all agency technology upgrades and requests come through one office; more can be done with fewer resources.
