AKRON, Ohio _ It's hard to believe that someone who stands 6 feet, 11 inches would be scared of anything.
But this 6-11 teen-ager, raised on the streets of Racine, Wis., was afraid of everything. He wasn't trusting of anyone except for his mother and dying father.
Then a man named Al McGuire walked into his life, and Jim Chones was never the same.
"Other than my mother and my father, he had the biggest effect on me," the former Cavs star said Friday. "He was an example for my life."
McGuire died Friday in Milwaukee at age 72. He recruited Chones to Marquette University in the early 1970s.
