Construction equipment prices on the increase
Controlling costs will be a more difficult task for construction equipment users this year. Along with the general upward trend in construction costs, including both materials and labor, construction equipment prices will increase at a greater rate in 1989. Overall equipment prices should rise by 3.7 percent this year, compared to a 2.6 percent increase in 1988.
Severe import competition kept construction equipment prices stable for a number of years. Since 1987, however, the weakening value of the U.S. dollar has driven up import prices. Domestic producers are also raising prices.
