At first glance, we'd put surfing the Great Lakes right up there with hiking the cities of New Jersey. But a new book insists that we can indeed catch that perfect wave up north.
''Surfing the Great Lakes'' (Big Lauter Tun Books, $14.95 paperback) contains instructions on how to do just that, complete with maps, charts, graphs and photos. The author, P.L. Strazz, is a veteran freshwater surfer who apparently has an almost obsessive interest in the sport.
Some handy advice: Buy a wetsuit. But, on a happier note, Lake Erie is the warmest of the Great Lakes.
