A study by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries, which looked at directions for reforming agricultural cooperatives, has found that in order for Japanese agricultural cooperatives to contribute to improving the incomes of the country's farmers and take the lead in promoting local agriculture, it will be necessary to make a fundamental review of business and organization of agricultural cooperative groups and set up working plans for reform.
Based on the report, the ministry has conducted a review of related laws and is making plans to submit a bill to the next Diet session.
