Feb. 1--Atlantic City is on the brink of a change in identity.
Think casino resort town with good restaurants and a hip nightlife. Casinos, it seems, are finally answering the cries of conventioneers and the friends and spouses of gamblers who don't really like to play the slots.
In Atlantic City's future are plans for shops, nightclubs and high-end restaurants, along with more hotel rooms for people not already on the 12 casinos' lists of best customers and who therefore rarely can find a room on the weekends.
The idea is to turn Atlantic City into more of a regional destination, similar to the strategy pursued by Las Vegas in the 1990s. It ...
