In April 1998 Sonatrach found oil and gas in the Illizi basin, in south-eastern Algeria. The Tihatiline North (TAN-1) well tested 1,024 b/d of 45 deg. API oil and 21,600 CM/d of gas. The well is 500 km south-east of Hassi Messaoud. The area, in Block 241, is part of the In Amenas region. This is one of the blocks which are wholly owned by Sonatrach and which will not be offered to other companies.
In September 1999 Sonatrach made a major oil and gas discovery in the south-eastern basin of Oued Mya, in Block 438 about 60 km west of Hassi Messaoud. The well, Benkahla East-1, tested 3,650 b/d of 42.8 deg. API oil and 107,000 CM/d of gas. On Jan. 25, 2000, Sonatrach ...
