The influence of attachment style on adult relationships has been drawing a great deal of scholarly attention in recent years. Attachment theory was originally introduced in order to explain how the early affectional bond between a mother and her child was related to the child's response to separation from the mother (Ainsworth, 1968; Bowlby, 1969). Hazan and Shaver (1987)re-introduced the attachment construct as an explanation for how people use information about past relationships to make inferences about current ones.
