WASHINGTON -- Norfolk State almost threw away its best shooting game of the season Saturday.
But, in the end, the Spartans saved themselves with more great shooting - this time from the free-throw line - to defeat stubborn Howard 90-86 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Quickly going inside to Darrell Neal for an 18-7 lead, the Spartans (6-13, 6-4 MEAC) appeared headed for their most lopsided victory of the season.
But after stretching the lead to 16 points five minutes into the second half, they crumbled against Howard's press to allow the Bison to get back into the game.
