Q: Can you explain what target heart rate is and why it's so important during exercise?

A: Target heart rate is an objective mathematical estimate of exercise intensity. It is most often used during aerobic exercise such as running.
It can also be used during anaerobic exercise such as sprinting and weight training, and is part of many sports programs.
Target heart rate is based on your age. To calculate it, first subtract your age from 220 (220 is the estimated maximum beats per minute of a newborn's heart.) The answer is your estimated maximum heart rate per minute.
