The Esencia Flamenca troupe have performed regularly in Birmingham since their 1997 debut, always pulling in capacity crowds. This Saturday sees the local debut of an off-shoot ensemble called Alma, featuring some very familiar flamenco faces.
Lead dancer Felipe de Algeciras was always right at the heart of any Esencia Flamenca show, his intense moves forging a powerful link with the audience. Felipe has formed Alma with guitarist Tito Heredia and dancer Carmela Romero, both colleagues from the old Esencia line-up.
