Nearly half of all women over 65 now use herbal therapies to prevent or treat health problems, but they rarely inform their health care providers, according to a University of Florida (UF) study.
Because many of these women also take prescription and over-the-counter medications, they are putting themselves at risk for dangerous drug interactions, nurse researchers said.
"People may think herbal remedies are safe because they are natural and take them even though they don't know if the product is effective," said Saun-Joo Yoon, a visiting assistant professor and graduate of the UF College of Nursing. ...
