About 400 applications have come in for a new $20 million federal abstinence-education grant program, confirming a strong, national interest in the approach, said one congressman.
Feb. 2 was the deadline to apply for the Special Projects of Regional and National Significance Community-Based Abstinence Education, or SPRANS abstinence grants.
More than 1,200 groups asked for information about how to apply for the grants, and about 400 of them applied, said a spokeswoman for the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, which oversees the program.
