AI calls for seasoned experts Things have changed in the commercial artificial-intelligence (AI) game. Whereas AI development used to take place only on expensive Lisp machines, now AI programming houses and mainstream companies with active AI programs are moving their development work to more modern platforms.

As the focus of the development work changes, so do the job descriptions. Because many of these companies are hiring software specialists to develop AI applications for general-purpose computers, they are looking less for the ability to invent new concepts and more for a well-versed understanding of the intricacies of AI.
