The main artery for gas exports and local supplies is a pipeline from the huge Hassi R'Mel gathering centre to Arzew and Skikda. Nine lines carry gas from there. Four others carry Hassi R'Mel condensates and LPG. A 1,500-km network of lines carry the gas outputs of the Alrar, Tin Fouye Tabankort, Rhourde Nouss and Gassi Touil fields to Hassi Messaoud and Hassi R'Mel. A 988-km line carrying gas from Alrar to Hassi R'Mel, GR1, started up in 1987 at 5.3 BCM/y was expanded to 7.5 BCM/y.
