OSCAR De La Hoya proclaimed his eight-month vacation over and said he wants to "get back on top of the boxing game."
"I was never retired," he said. "I was on a little vacation to regroup so I could relax physically and mentally."
De La Hoya formally announced a 12-round welterweight fight with former IBF junior lightweight champion Arturo Gatti for March 24 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Promoters indicated the fight would be televised on HBO, but that remains in doubt.
