FORT MYERS - The disappointment has faded and the wounds have seemingly healed, and so the Red Sox are preparing to enter another spring training giddy with optimism. As sharply as ticket prices climbed after a sour end to the 2000 season, hope for this team similarly skyrocketed over the winter with an unprecedented acquisition in the free agent marketplace.
If that victory could come after so many demoralizing failures, isn't it reasonable to assume that others could, too?
Could it be, after all these years, that the odds are indeed in the Red Sox' favor?
