Feb. 11--Lake County government has suffered an extraordinary rise in health care expenses, triple the national rate since 1998.
That fiscal year, the county paid $10.5 million for health care for about 1,900 covered employees and their families. By Sept. 30, 2000, that figure had risen to $15.2 million, according to Dante Rondelli, financial adviser to the Lake County Council.
Rondelli expects the county's total health care costs to reach $16.5 million this fiscal year -- $6 million more than the amount paid in 1998.
