Sweden has maintained its position as the world's dominant information economy, according to the 2001 IDC/World Times Information Society Index (ISI).

For the second consecutive year, the ISI ranked Sweden as No. 1 in the ability to access and absorb information and information technology. In contrast, the United States, which was second last year, fell to the fourth spot, trading places with Norway, which moved from fourth last year to second in 2001. Rounding out the top-ranked countries is Finland at No. 3.
