High natural gas costs trigger widespread industry shutdowns.
IN THE LAST few months, ammonia prices have soared due to production curtailment caused by the rise of natural gas prices to unprecedented levels. Ammonia prices are now averaging about $300 per short ton in the Gulf Coast region, almost triple the price of a year ago with prices climbing as high as $375 per ton in the Corn Belt region due to possible regional supply shortage caused by storage and transport limitations.
