MANTEO -- Carlisle Davis was remembered Saturday as a plain-speaking, ``true Southern gentleman.''
Davis, who died unexpectedly Friday at his Manteo home, was chairman of Dare County's Board of Elections and a former mayor and commissioner of the town of Manteo. He was 66.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo. The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Twiford Funeral Home.
