Not once, but twice. And all in one day. Both of the Swiss People's Party's (UDC/SVP) official candidates were overlooked by the Swiss Parliament on December 6, as unofficial Swiss People's Party candidate Samuel Schmid of Berne was chosen as the successor to Adolf Ogi on the Federal Council. Rita Fuhrer of Zurich and Roland Eberle of Thurgau never stood a chance against Schmid, who won by a landslide margin.
