FORT MYERS, Fla. _ About a week ago, Nomar Garciaparra completed his typically grueling offseason conditioning program that left him again at five-percent body fat packed on his well-muscled 180-pound frame.
Then the Boston Red Sox' All-Star shortstop and two-time defending American League batting champion picked up an award at the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame dinner last weekend, and headed to training camp.
On Tuesday, he walked into the Sox' minor league facility with his close friend, utilityman Lou Merloni, and went through a few fielding drills, a little batting practice in a tunnel and some weight work.
