Facing a federal lawsuit, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. said Monday that it would no longer require genetic testing of some employees who file claims for carpal tunnel syndrome.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based railway's actions were "very offensive" and "a huge violation of privacy," said Jean Kamp, regional attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Milwaukee office.
The commission sued the company Friday.
Over the weekend, company executives decided to halt the testing. "We wanted to resolve it as quickly as we could, in the best interests of our employees and our shareholders," company spokesman Dick Russack said.
