The hard-working mule is probably the most unappreciated, misunderstood, and unfairly maligned domestic animal in this animal-loving country. The following can be considered an apology to one of our most faithful and important servants and friends.
A mule is the progeny of a male donkey and a female horse. This distinguishes it from a hinney, which is the product of a male horse and a female donkey. Since it takes about a month longer to make a donkey than a horse, one might expect a certain degree of superiority on the part of the mule.
