COME SUNDAY, we're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.
But first, courtesy of ABC, we'll see Judy Garland when she was Baby Frances Gumm being raised by a stage mother who encouraged her daughter to sign with MGM when Judy was but 13.
Frances' father, Frank, a former vaudevillian, wasn't so sure it was the right thing to do.
``You're pushing her too hard. Let her have a normal life for a while.''
Mother Ethel prevailed. She sent Frances off to MGM. Daughter turned her paychecks over to Mom.
Signing with no screen test, Garland began at MGM on a salary of $100 a week. How many kids ...
