Chuck Collins thinks we should drop expensive light rail in favor of free buses.
There's no doubt that Collins knows buses. He is the former director of Metro, the county bus system that was merged with county government in 1996.
The obvious incentive to cast about for alternatives is sticker shock over the dramatically increased cost estimates for the 21-mile Link light-rail segment of Sound Transit's regional plan. More than a billion bucks over budget and three years behind schedule, the light-rail project has sparked fears that Sound Transit has gotten us on the wrong transportation track.
