Twenty years ago, a few people stopped asking why there were no wolves in Yellowstone National Park and started asking how we could bring them back. That very question was the seed of inspiration from which grew grass roots action and ultimately successful wolf restoration. It is individuals who dare to ask how they can conserve or restore a special place they know and love, whose actions-combined with the efforts of others like them-make conservation happen. Their love of wildlife and commitment to the health of wild places is the touchstone of the American conservation movement and a key part of our national character.
