Tropical Retailing NEW YORK STYLE
NEW YORK -- A tropical decor cannot transcend the real thing, but three boutiques here come close. In their own way, these stores stimulate the senses and lure customers into another world.
Ibiza, Back to Guatemala and Tropica are not only creating an oasis for weary New Yorkers, but are drumming up individual volumes ranging from $500,000 up to $1 million-plus.
Their esthetics range from brocade divans laden with golden scarves, to mask and puppet-covered walls to scenic videos over fresh flowers and brewing coffee.
