The Australian Defence Department has issued a request for tenders (RFT) for the Australian Army's Project Air 87, which seeks to acquire new armed reconnaissance helicopters. Bidders will have four months to lodge their tenders, and within a further four months the most competitive offers will be identified. A contract should be signed by the end of 2001. Between 20 and 25 helicopters will be acquired, with the aircraft entering service with the Army by December 2004.
