Feb. 28--A South Florida jury on Tuesday ordered chemical maker E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. to pay $12.3 million in damages to an Ecuadoran shrimp farm, after finding that runoff of DuPont fungicide Benlate and other chemicals had hurt shrimp production.
The action is the second in Broward County against DuPont in three months, following a $10 million verdict in December brought by a different Ecuadoran shrimp farm on similar Benlate charges.
DuPont is appealing the first verdict and also is expected to appeal the Tuesday judgment in a Hollywood court.
