You know how one thing leads to another. First you're in art school in Utah in the late '60s and you do some all-black paintings using motor oil. After that, in L.A., you paint by just putting the stuff in your hair and smushing your head against the wall. Soon it occurs to you that paint--especially as mythologized by the likes of Jackson Pollock--is a thinly disguised stand-in for bodily effluences (blood, urine, semen, feces, saliva).
