Courtney Love is counter-suing Universal Music Group (UMG) Recordings, charging the record label violated California labor law, which allows the termination of contracts between creative artists and entertainment companies after seven years.

Barry Cappello, lawyer for the Hole lead singer, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. It comes in response to the lawsuit UMG filed against Love when she tried to end her contract with the label.
