Feb. 28--WASHINGTON--In a far-reaching unanimous decision, the Supreme Court yesterday reaffirmed the federal government's authority to set clean air standards, rejecting industry arguments that the economic costs of regulation must be weighed against the health benefits.
While the high court's nine justices ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to adopt a more "reasonable" interpretation for enforcing ozone standards in some areas, they agreed that the agency has the right to enforce stringent regulations set in 1997.
