A member of the Bloomingdale Historical Society is "about 60 percent" finished with his two-year project to identify Civil War veterans buried in the St. Paul/Evergreen Cemetery on Lake Street.
A life-long hobby last year led Bob Kurek to locating 18 graves of Civil War veterans, as well as six graves of veterans of the War of 1812, in the cemetery.
Now he's trying to learn the name of each solider buried in the graves. The project has been difficult, he said, because many headstones and grave markers have deteriorated through time.
