Matsushita Electronic Components Co Ltd has developed a thin, flat 14 mm-thick speaker that can reproduce high-quality sound recorded in digital media such as digital versatile disks (DVDs).
Matsushita's new speaker features a direct drive method that uses a square-shape voice coil and a magnetic circuit to directly vibrate the outer rim of the diaphragm's plate.
