Today, there is an urban feel to the Ocean Park area between Shore Drive and the Chesapeake Bay where a maritime forest once grew.
Not too long ago, live oaks and wax myrtles sprouted from the sandy soil behind the dunes. In spring and fall, migrating warblers darted from branch to branch searching for insects.
Now, it is difficult to imagine such a landscape because so much of its essence has been destroyed. Some residential areas in Ocean Park look completely paved over. Houses, duplexes and condos are jammed together, and front yards are almost nonexistent.
