Matthew ''Poppy'' Valentine - a bricklayer, professional gambler, racehorse owner and former Bromley council member - died Thursday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cincinnati. He was 68.
Mr. Valentine of Bromley thoroughly enjoyed life and had an ability to spread the joy to everyone he touched, said his son, Ronald Valentine of Florence.
''He attracted people. He was very fun to be around,'' he said.
He learned early to deal with sorrow, but search for happiness. His mother was killed when he was a child, and he was raised by his sister, the late Margie Gosney, in Milford.
He served in the Army in Korea and came home ...
