Class-D amplifiers increase battery life in next generation wireless phones.
The convergence of filterless class-D and shrinking package size, coupled with the demand for increased output power in wireless phones, has created a need for class-D amplifiers in wireless handsets. Increased efficiency is the advantage that class-D brings to wireless phones. Increased efficiency means longer battery life, less heat dissipation and lower supply current (meaning smaller battery and power supply). Until now, the class-D amplifier required a large and expensive output filter. The filterless modulation scheme allows the removal of the output filter, reducing the amplifier. ...
