2001 FEB 23 - (NewsRx.com) -- Two comparison studies indicate cefdinir is the preferred antibiotic for treating both otitis media and strep throat.
The reports were published in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal.
A study of cefdinir and combined amoxicillin/clavulanate for treatment of acute otitis media in children suggests that while both drugs are clinically effective, cefdinir is the better option due to fewer adverse gastrointestinal effects.
Cefdinir is a relatively new, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. The antibiotic mix, amoxicillin/clavulanate, has been used to treat otitis media for some time.
