HAVANA -- As Valentines Day approaches, another year passes in which Cuba's flower producers, once major suppliers of cut flowers to the United States, are shut out of the market.

Growers near Havana could reach US markets quickly and utilize the same distribution channels that carried fresh fruits and vegetables from South Florida to buyers in New York and other cities on the East Coast.

Since the embargo most cut flowers sold in the United States are imported from Colombia and Central America.
