The small chapel was only half full, the singing uncertain. Suddenly a watery sun slanted in through the arched window and lit up the young minister's face so that for a moment or two he looked almost saintly, his closely barbered fair hair and his skin glowing. The singing grew more confident. There was an attempt at harmony.
Glyn felt uncomfortable that the young chap--he couldn't have been more than twenty-three or -four--referred to his newly dead mother as Hester; she was Mrs Richards to everyone outside the family and wouldn't have approved of his over-familiarity.
