Fish Oil Price Remains Flat Despite Lower Production Levels.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

FISH OIL PRICES remained flat throughout last year, and pricing is expected to continue to be level this year as soft oil prices still dominate the fats and oils market. Although production was much lower in 2000 than in 1999, Asian demand for fish oil has declined, and consumption for edible uses, which include hydrogenated and hardened oil for margarine and shortening, is steadily decreasing.

Current crude fish oil prices in the European market are at $325 per ton, c.i.f. Rotterdam. Crude fish oil had been trading between $130 to $285 per ton. Recently it is being traded and bid from $260 to $265 per ton for shipment in March and $245 per ton for April and May.
