IF YOU asked multinational companies where they would prefer to set up regional headquarters for the Asia-Pacific 10 years ago, you were unlikely to hear Australia as their main choice.

For years, Australia's attractiveness as a regional headquarters for global players in the technological and financial sectors was dwarfed by the new economy-savvy and more central locations like Singapore or Hong Kong.
