Des Plaines mayoral candidates couldn't be much farther apart over the issue of requiring city staff department heads to live in town.
Perhaps they are a reflection of a community divided on a longstanding debate about starting a residency requirement in Des Plaines.
The city's current eight aldermen are so split over the issue, they had to vote several times throughout the last summer and fall before the referendum question got on the April 3 ballot.
The issue has come up before, and aldermen have not embraced the idea.
