KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Texas coach Rick Barnes told his team that defense would be the key against Oklahoma State on Friday afternoon.
He obviously knew what he was talking about.
Texas got a big defensive play from freshman guard Brandon Mouton, who stuck his hand on a shot and forced a jump ball with 3.9 seconds left, preserving the Longhorns' 55-54 win over the Cowboys in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament.
The win sent Texas into today's 1 p.m. semifinal against Baylor. That the Longhorns advanced after making just eight of 31 shots in the first half just reinforces Barnes' point.
