Patients suffering certain chronic diseases need frequent monitoring of key signs, often once a day, according to health care providers. At the same time, it can be particularly taxing for people who are that ill to make daily trips to the clinic.
A product developed by HomMed LLC of Brookfield, Wis., lets patients stay at home and still keep in touch with medical caretakers. The system, designed to monitor patients with congestive heart failure and other serious medical conditions, will read vital signs and transmit the information to medical observers. It will raise an alarm if anything is unusual.
