After a brace of destructive civil wars that left this potentially rich central African country economically crippled, there are encouraging signs that confidence in the country is beginning to grow. The IMF approved a total of Cfa511bn to fund a post conflict programme late last year and there are already indications that the ravaged infrastructure is being repaired. Work on rehabilitating roads, schools and health-care centres has already begun.
According to the IMF, the ceasefire signed in late 1999 has dramatically improved the security situation and there is, at least for the present, political stability.
