Eastman Chemical develops a new amber PET designed to protect beer from light.
The Graduate had it right some thirty years ago, when a character said the future would come down to one word--plastic. It's taken the beer business awhile to come around, but plastic beer bottles are now making major inroads into the marketplace. Anheuser-Busch, Miller and Coors are each selling or testing PET bottles, and even tiny Dixie Brewing Co. has set up a line to handle plastic. The packages are a proven winner for stadium and arena applications, and some analysts expect PET bottles to seize about 2% of the overall package mix.
