MINNEAPOLIS-When they heard IKEA North America's advertising account was up for review, the staff at Carmichael Lynch, an advertising agency based here, was excited. Granted, the nearest IKEA store is nearly 400 miles away in the Chicago suburbs. But the Swedish retailer's unconventional reputation was well known.
"A lot of fans here make a pilgrimage to Chicago on occasion and come back with a van of flat-packs," said John Colassanti, president of Carmichael Lynch.
Similarly, IKEA's reputation within the advertising community was also a draw.
"IKEA's very well known in the industry. We're all big fans of their campaigns," Colassanti said. ...
